Was given the honor of being included on this year’s The
Trans 100 list. I guess I've been doing some good in this world after all. When
my Lord set me on this path, telling me in no uncertain terms that trans people
were God's people too, I had no idea if I'd be able to do much at all. No one
can do good work for a community alone. The people who have supported me in my
work need mentioning, as this is their honor as well. First, I name my family
of choice, Aubrey Beta Schaefer & Cary Gabriel Costello who gave me the
courage and example to come out and begin my transition in the first place, and
who continue to give me love in abundance. Next, Bishop Craig Bergland and all
the clergy of The UAC, for not allowing transition to prevent me from my
vocation. The Community of the Holy Trinity for taking me in & Oratory of
Jesus Christ, Reconciler for taking me on as their associate pastor, it is here
that I live out the vows of my ordination. And finally, the Chicago Women's
Health Center feminist collective, who have given me so many opportunities to
advocate and educate on behalf of my trans siblings, and who have unfailingly
seen me as the woman I am. My heart constantly melts at the thought of you all.
